Ministry of Energy completes evaluation of household RES projects
The Ministry of Energy has finally completed the evaluation of RES projects for households – a program that was launched in May 2023. A total of 1854 households have applied to switch their heating from solid fuel to renewable energy sources. Out of these, 1544 will receive funding for projects to purchase solar installations for domestic hot water supply or photovoltaic systems up to 10 kWp, including energy storage systems. The total investment amount is 240 million BGN, with 140 million BGN.
Financing Solar Energy Systems in Bulgaria
Bulgaria has recently announced a new program to finance solar energy systems, with funding coming from the Recovery and Sustainability Mechanism as well as national and private co-financing. Photovoltaic systems with a capacity of up to 10 kWp will receive up to 70% financing, but no more than 15,000 BGN.
This initiative comes after a long delay in the evaluation process, with the assessment finally completed and the ranking approved by the Minister of Energy, Vladimir Malinov. The Ministry of Energy acknowledges that households applying for funding through the program have been waiting for the ranking for a long time, following the acceptance of the applications.
Energy Support Scheme in Bulgaria
The new call for proposals started in May 2023 and will end in November 2023. According to the Ministry of Energy, the work of the evaluators in recent months has been accelerated due to a requirement from Vladimir Malinov. A total of 2001 project proposals were submitted within the first invitation under the “National Scheme for Household Support in the Field of RES Energy”, funded through the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan. Out of these, 147 were withdrawn by the candidates.
The implementation of the scheme is of paramount importance for consumers who rely on renewable energy sources for their households. The Ministry of Energy is committed to ensuring a fair and transparent evaluation process to support projects that will contribute to a sustainable energy future for Bulgaria.
Reducing Energy Costs and Promoting Renewable Energy
Minister of Energy, Vladimir Malinov, commented that households can significantly reduce their electricity costs by switching to renewable energy sources. He also highlighted the environmental benefits of replacing solid fuels with electricity. The implementation of the “National Scheme for Supporting Households in the Field of Renewable Energy” under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan aims to increase the use of renewable energy in household consumption. This initiative is co-financed by the European Union.
