Romanian Coast Supported by Vacation Vouchers Again This Year
The Romanian coastline is once again benefiting from vacation vouchers, with over 70% of total sales being made through these tickets.
Three-star hotels have emerged as the top choice for tourists utilizing this payment method. The majority of these bookings were made in Mamaia and Eforie Nord. In one hotel in Mamaia, more than half of the guests paid with vouchers.
A female guest stated, “I still have some remaining amounts, and I will use them again this year. 1,450 lei every year.” A male guest added, “We pay with the vacation card.” When asked if they pay in full, he replied, “Yes, even for meals, we will use the vacation card.”
Hoteliers recognize that the vouchers provide significant support each year, noting that the coast would appear much emptier without this assistance.
Insights from Hotel Representatives
Iulitan Tenie, a representative of a three-star hotel, stated, “Approximately 50% of our tourists come to our hotel based on these vacation vouchers. We can say that there is still a dependency on these vouchers in tourism, especially on the coast.” Corina Martin from the Federation of Employers in the Hospitality Industry mentioned, “A large portion of sales, over 70%, actually comes from sales made with vacation tickets.”
The highest sales using vouchers occurred in Mamaia, accounting for over 70%, followed by resorts in the southern part of the coastline. More than half of the tourists who visited Eforie Nord this year paid for their stays in this manner, with many also frequenting Jupiter, Cap Aurora, and Venus.
Top Resorts Where Vacation Vouchers Were Spent
- Mamaia: 70%
- Eforie Nord: 60%
- Jupiter and Cap Aurora: 55%
- Venus: 50%
These vouchers can primarily be used for accommodation, with the only requirement being that the selected hotels or guesthouses must be located within Romania. Subsequently, they can also be used to pay for meals, transportation, as well as wellness services or recreational activities. Oana Olteanu, a representative of a three-star hotel, noted, “At our hotel, accommodation and meals at the restaurant can be paid for.”
Tourism specialists indicate that this year, the state has issued vacation vouchers worth 2 billion lei.
