Belarus Deploys Tanks at Ukrainian Border Amid Rising Tensions
Belarus has begun to position tanks along its border with Ukraine, according to reports from the DPA, citing the defense ministry in Minsk. This announcement follows a statement made by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on August 10, in which he declared that the country’s air defense system had been placed on full combat readiness after the incursion of ten Ukrainian drones into its territory.
“Belarus has shot down several Ukrainian targets,” Lukashenko stated, though he did not provide further details. It is believed that this incursion occurred on Friday, as reported by DPA. Lukashenko accused the Ukrainian armed forces of violating all rules of engagement by entering Belarusian airspace in the eastern region near Kastyukovichy. “We suspect that these were combat drones,” he added.
He clarified that, in addition to the air defense forces on high alert, aircraft and helicopters were also prepared to respond. DPA notes that this information cannot be independently verified, as Lukashenko is regarded as Europe’s last dictator. He has been a staunch supporter of Russia in its conflict with Ukraine, allowing Russian troops to operate from southern Belarus at the beginning of the war. From there, they launched incursions into northern Ukraine.
