Counterfeit goods worth 130 million lei seized by Border Police
In the first six months of the year, the Border Police have uncovered shipments of counterfeit goods worth 130 million lei. Most of these products are clothing and lingerie, as well as toys.

According to a press release from the Border Police on Saturday, in the first six months of the year, border police officers have identified 297 criminal acts related to intellectual property rights.

Police seize over 24,000 counterfeit sunglasses
Police seized a large quantity of counterfeit goods, including 24,000 pieces of sunglasses, with a total value of over 130 million lei if sold as branded products. The items were confiscated by border police and sent for examination to the trademark holders,” the Border Police said in a statement, quoted by News.ro.
Counterfeit products mainly from China and Turkey
Most of the counterfeit products originated from China and Turkey. The routes used for smuggling counterfeit goods into Romania are as follows:
- China-Romania: Counterfeit products are shipped by sea in containers and are inspected by customs officials. The recipients of these goods are usually commercial companies with Romanian or Chinese administrators.
- Turkey-Romania: Counterfeit products are discovered by border police working at Border Crossing Points at the border with Bulgaria: Giurgiu BCP, Calafat BCP, BCP B
Counterfeit Products Seized by Border Police
The Border Police have recently made significant seizures of counterfeit products in Romania. These illegal goods are often hidden in various means of transportation such as buses, trucks, vans, or cars, usually concealed among other legally transported goods.
Additionally, a considerable amount of counterfeit products has been discovered in the maritime ports of Constanța County. The imports are carried out through Romanian commercial companies, importing consumer goods from China in containerized form.
The Border Police emphasizes that the value of the confiscated goods is reported in relation to the market value of authentic products, which will be destroyed after being retained, in accordance with legal provisions.
Those responsible for bringing these counterfeit products into the country are being investigated for “putting into circulation without the right a product bearing a mark identical or similar to the registered mark for identical or similar products.”
