Cornelia Ninova’s Ineligibility for Deputy Candidacy
Cornelia Ninova is unable to run for deputy due to constitutional restrictions that she herself imposed, which state that anyone with 12 years of experience as a member of parliament cannot run for such a position again. This announcement was made by the interim chairman of the Socialist Party (BSP), Atanas Zafirov, during a broadcast on Bulgarian National Television (BNT).
Zafirov clarified that the final arrangement of the party lists will take place in the National Council of the Socialist Party. According to him, there are no issues within the BSP, nor are there individuals they wish to part ways with. He emphasized that media narratives suggesting a coup within the BSP, where a group of individuals is trying to seize control of the party and steer it in the wrong direction, indicate that some people are opposed to the unification of all 15 factions into a coalition with the BSP for the upcoming elections.
Zafirov described Ninova’s behavior as a blatant form of sabotage and noted that when such behavior occurs, it is only natural to implement some form of corrective action, as her actions create confusion within the party. As an example of Ninova’s sabotage, Zafirov pointed out that due to a lawsuit she filed, the BSP’s funding is currently halted, which hinders the party from carrying out its normal administrative functions.
Regarding the future caretaker Prime Minister, Zafirov made it clear that the candidacy of Goritsa Grancharova-Kozhareva does not come from the BSP. Concerning the retention of Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov in the next caretaker cabinet, Zafirov stated that there were obstructions from various political forces against Stoyanov’s candidacy during consultations with the president. It is worth noting that Kalin Stoyanov acknowledged yesterday that there is a strong sense of pressure on the future Prime Minister, Goritsa Grancharova-Kozhareva, not to include him in her proposed cabinet.
