The electric interconnection of Crete with the mainland system (Attica) with a transmission capacity of 1GW, using direct current (DC) technology, represents the largest and most complex transmission project in the country.
The development of electrical energy in Greece
Greece is one of the countries with a high potential for harnessing electrical energy, especially through offshore wind farms. One of the most ambitious projects in the country is the construction of a deep-sea interconnection that will connect Greece to other countries through underwater cables.
The construction phase of the project, using innovative VSC (Voltage Source Converters) technology to convert alternating current to direct current, is nearly complete. Work is now focused on the wiring and installation of outdoor equipment, in preparation for the electrification of the cable.
