Challenges Faced by Tour Operators in Bulgaria
The recent decision to extend the measure limiting the working hours of tour guides in Bulgaria has caused accounting chaos and difficulties for tour operators. The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) is calling for the measure to be extended until the end of the year. However, this decision ultimately depends on the National Assembly, and Bulgaria would be in violation of European legislation if it unilaterally extends it, as it was intended to be temporary and applicable only in exceptional situations.
Furthermore, the regulation of the work of tour guides, which the Commission for Protection of Competition (CPC) found to be in violation, is also a major issue for the sector.
