Ukrainian Cereals in Transit Through Moldova Exempt from Food Safety Agency Control
A new project approved by Parliament in Moldova will exempt cereals originating from Ukraine and transported in transit through Moldova from the control of the National Food Safety Agency. The project, approved with 59 votes in the second reading, aims to facilitate the transit of non-animal origin goods and reduce congestion at the Moldovan border due to increased traffic from Ukraine.
Deputy Alexandr Trubca, president of the Agriculture and Food Industry Committee, who submitted the project, believes that its adoption will address the transit issues and congestion at the Moldovan border. The document proposes a derogation from the provisions of the Law on Plant Protection and Phytosanitary Quarantine.
Exemption for Cereals in Transit from Ukraine
Cereals originating from Ukraine and transported through the state border crossing points, entry Giurgiulești – Reni and exit Giurgiulești – Galați, as well as transported by rail, for which transit regime is requested, shall not be subject to control by the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA). This exemption will apply until September 14, 2024.
The initiators of the initiative argue that this type of goods transit our country in specialized transport means, and the risk of introducing quarantine organisms is low. In case of accidents occurring during transportation and of the cargoes in transit on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, transporters are obliged to notify ANSA within two hours.
