Significant Increase in Fresh Grape Exports to the EU in 2024
In the first seven months of 2024, exports of fresh grapes to the European Union have surged 2.5 times compared to the same period in 2023. Last year, Moldova exported 5,015 tons of grapes to the EU, whereas this year, the figure has increased dramatically to 12,527 tons. This remarkable growth translates to over 324 million lei in sales for local farmers, and the year is not yet over, according to Dumitru Alaiba, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization.
Main Export Destinations and Future Prospects
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the primary destinations for Moldovan grapes are Romania and Poland. “The continuous growth in our exports to the EU each year indicates several key factors: we are producing high-quality products and we have significant potential for further expansion. This achievement is largely attributed to our dedicated farmers. We take pride in their efforts and will continue to support them in exploring new markets,” concluded Alaiba.
