In the district of Payas in Hatay, 33-year-old Damla Macit Çörtük learned the craft of machining during her high school years at her father’s workshop. Through her determination, she not only took charge of the family business but also established her own company.
Early Beginnings
While studying in high school, Damla developed a passion for her father’s metalworking business. In her spare time, she would visit their workshop located in Yenişehir Neighborhood. After learning the intricacies of the trade from her father, she began to assist in fulfilling customer orders.
Taking the Lead
Upon graduating from high school, Damla took over the management of the workshop and increased her hours at the lathe. She began designing products used in the steel industry, showcasing her growing expertise and creativity.
Academic Pursuits
Currently, Damla is a third-year student in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Mustafa Kemal University. Last year, she launched her own enterprise named “Damla Makina,” further solidifying her commitment to her craft.
Balancing Responsibilities
In her role, Damla oversees projects for both her father’s and her own company, manages client relationships, and handles accounting tasks. She is dedicated to mentoring newcomers in the machining profession.
A Lifelong Passion
Reflecting on her journey, Damla expressed her lifelong love for machining, stating, “I watched my father and learned his trade.” She reminisced, “After my father left for work, I would follow him to the workshop. He realized that I wouldn’t give up on my passion, and eventually, he embraced my involvement. Together, we expanded the operations of our 250-square-meter workshop and accomplished remarkable projects.”
Empowering Women in Industry
Damla aims to inspire and train more individuals in this field, emphasizing, “I can easily operate all the machines in our workshop. Women can confidently work in any aspect of industry, in machines, and at every corner.”
A Legacy to Cherish
With over 15 years in the profession, Damla highlighted her pride in continuing her father’s legacy. “I took over the system he established, and I am incredibly happy and proud. I consider myself fortunate to have such a supportive father. I continue to pursue my profession with passion.”
