The major repair works on the “Danube Bridge” in Ruse are set to begin today, July 10th. The bridge will not be completely closed, but temporary traffic regulations will be implemented, which are expected to cause some delays on the otherwise busy bridge. Groundbreaking Ceremony for Dunav Bridge Construction
Today, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the buffer zone of the Dunav Bridge border checkpoint, marking the beginning of construction on this important project. The responsibility for the construction lies with “Putinengineering” Ltd., which is also tasked with the implementation of the building and assembly works on the site.
Present at the ceremony were Dragomir Draganov, the regional governor, Violeta Koritarova, the Minister of Regional Development, Deputy Minister Dimitar Nedyalkov, Engineer Georgi Kichukov, a member of the Board of Directors of “Glavbolgarstroy Holding,” as well as the Vice Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of “GBS – Infrastructure.”
Major Renovation of Danube Bridge to Begin Soon
The mayor of Ruse, Pencho Milkov, along with representatives from the Bulgarian and Romanian embassies, attended a meeting with the construction company “AD” to discuss the upcoming major renovation of the Danube Bridge. The consortium awarded the contract for the renovation was selected last year after a public tender process by the Road Infrastructure Agency. The value of the contract is just over 44.8 million Bulgarian lev with VAT included, funded by the Agency’s budget. The construction supervision will be carried out by the company “Danube Bridge-Road Infrastructure Agency-Strol” with a contract value of 848,400 lev with VAT. The Road Infrastructure Agency has created a special section on its website dedicated to providing information about the Danube Bridge renovation project.

Authorities have announced a six-stage renovation project on the border between Bulgaria and Romania. Modern Traffic Management System Implemented on Bulgarian Bridge
A new adaptive traffic light system will now regulate traffic flow on a bridge in Bulgaria. This system can be moved and placed in the specific section of the bridge that is under repair. The bridge, located on Bulgarian territory, has a total length of just over a kilometer. Since its commissioning 70 years ago in 1954, no major repairs have been carried out. Repairs were last made over 22 years ago to reinforce the joints, and in 2011 the waterproofing and asphalt pavement were replaced, according to the Road Infrastructure Agency.
