Government Recalculates Pensions, Significant Increases Ahead
The government has recalculated a total of 4,609,830 pensions, and starting from September 1, pensions will increase for 82.56% of retirees in the public system, translating to approximately 3.8 million pensioners. However, 17.44%, or 803,433 pensioners, will not see an increase in their pension amounts.
The average percentage increase in pensions is reported to be 26.65%, with a nominal increase of 622 lei.
Stable and Decreased Pensions
A total of 84,176 pensions will remain unchanged following the recalculation, while 719,257 pensions will reflect a lower amount. Nonetheless, pensions will not decrease, as retirees will benefit from the more favorable amounts. It is important to note that some retirees may not qualify for pension indexation starting January 1, 2025.
Furthermore, 90,892 pensioners will no longer be classified as beneficiaries of social allowances, as the new amounts based on contributions exceed the social pension threshold of 1,281 lei.
Financial Implications
The additional monthly impact for the payment of recalculated pensions is estimated at 2.36 billion lei, which totals approximately 9.45 billion lei over the four months leading up to the end of the year. These funds are accounted for in the state budget.
