Minimum Wage Increase in Montenegro
The minimum wage in Montenegro is set to increase. The country will introduce two minimum wage tiers of 600 and 800 euros. As of June this year, the minimum wage was 532.5 euros. The state plans to establish these two minimum wages based on educational attainment. For individuals with secondary education or lower, the minimum wage will be set at 600 euros, while those with higher or advanced education will receive 800 euros.
This change to the Labor Law has been approved by the Social Council and is awaiting ratification by the Assembly. The introduction of two minimum wages is part of the government’s fiscal strategy draft, as well as the political program “Europe Now 2,” aimed at achieving an average wage of 1,000 euros statistically. Prime Minister Milojko Spajić welcomed the decision to increase the minimum wage.
In 2020, the minimum wage was just 222 euros. With the announced increase, it is poised to rise nearly fourfold.
