Approval of Urban Planning Detail for Major Real Estate Project
Today, July 31, the Local Council of Sector 5 gave the green light to the Urban Planning Detail (PUD) for Romania’s tallest residential tower project, developed by One United Properties. This decision comes after Mayor Nicușor Dan visited the Sector 5 City Hall a day prior to the meeting to express his objections to the project, following his withdrawal of a traffic approval issued in August 2023.
New Traffic Approval Authority
In light of these developments, Mayor Nicușor Dan announced that starting today, he will personally oversee the signing of traffic approvals for Urban Planning Zoning (PUZ), PUDs, and construction permits. The traffic technical committee will now serve in an advisory capacity. The mayor criticized the committee for previously issuing approvals for illegal projects in various sectors, such as the recent PUD for One Cotroceni, without thoroughly examining the legal context and only assessing the existence of traffic studies.
Future Traffic Models and Project Evaluations
Mayor Dan highlighted concerns regarding the reliability of traffic studies, noting that many of them indicate that all investments are feasible. He mentioned that a new traffic model will soon be implemented, allowing for a more rigorous evaluation of traffic studies. This approach aims to effectively reject projects that contribute to congestion in the city.
