Minister Addresses Urban Planning Issues on National TV
During an appearance on the central news broadcast of TV Sitel, Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski highlighted the pressures stemming from the Urban Planning Law, which have caused prices per square meter to soar in certain municipalities. “We are witnessing people in rural areas selling two-story houses for 50,000 euros, while in Skopje or in these two municipalities, they can’t even buy a studio apartment for that amount. As a result, they are relocating. There is no young married couple that can afford 3,000 euros per square meter, and this is happening because of the hysteria against urbanization on one hand, and on the other hand, everything is concentrating in Skopje, turning it into a city-state, while the interior is deteriorating, and prices here are skyrocketing,” Nikoloski pointed out.
Minister Nikoloski proposed a solution that involves forming a commission comprising all relevant stakeholders to draft a new Urban Planning Law aimed at restoring order in the current urban chaos.
