Customs Service Revenue Surpasses Expectations
In the first half of the current year, the Customs Service collected over 17.726 billion lei for the state budget, which represents 46.3% of the annual budget target. This is an increase of 1.424 billion lei or 8.7% compared to the same period in 2023.
A report from the institution indicates that the largest share, 67.3%, comes from VAT, followed by excise duties at 26.2% and customs duties at 6.3%. Specifically, VAT on imports amounted to over 11.925 billion lei, an increase of 657.81 million lei or 5.8% compared to the previous year. Excise duties on imports totaled over 4.635 billion lei, an increase of 919.28 million lei or 24.7% compared to the first half of 2023.
Excise duties on imported petroleum products accounted for over 1.820 billion lei or 39.3% of total excise duties collected, which is 9% more than the same period last year. This was followed by excise duties on tobacco products, totaling over 1 billion lei.
Revenue from Excise and Customs Duties Increases
In the first quarter of 2024, the revenue from excise duties in Romania amounted to 592 billion lei, representing 34.3% of the total excise duties collected. Excise duties on imported vehicles totaled 953.25 million lei, accounting for 20.6% of the total excise duties collected, while excise duties on imported liquefied gases amounted to 112.88 million lei.
Customs duties, on the other hand, reached over 1.121 billion lei, showing an increase of more than 178 million lei or 18.9% compared to the same period in 2023.
