Compensation for Landowners Affected by the Vulcănești-Chișinău Power Line Project
More than 70% of landowners and tenants whose properties were utilized for the installation of the necessary pylons for the Vulcănești-Chișinău Overhead Power Line (OHL) have received their compensation for either temporary or permanent land expropriation.
Efforts to Ensure Clarity in the Expropriation Process
“As the team responsible for the expropriation process, UCIPE – the Project Implementation Unit in Energy, is working diligently to reach out to every individual to explain the expropriation procedure, how compensation assessments are conducted, and the benefits this brings for both the individuals and the country as a whole,” stated Ruslan Surugiu, the director of UCIPE.
Progress on the Construction of Pylons
To date, approximately 100 foundations, or 20% of the total required for the Vulcănești-Chișinău OHL pylons, are under construction, with 80 already completed. The work site has expanded across multiple segments, totaling over 30 kilometers, which accounts for about 20% of the entire OHL length.
Connecting Moldova’s Energy System with Romania
The Vulcănești-Chișinău OHL, one of three power lines intended to connect the Republic of Moldova’s energy system with Romania’s, will stretch for 157 kilometers. In total, over 500 pylons and 1,500 kilometers of conductors will establish a strategic link between the south and the center, crossing eight districts and 35 localities. Depending on the energy system’s operation, the line will be capable of facilitating a flow of up to 630 MVA, which could meet 50% of energy consumption during peak demand periods.
Funding and Project Value
The construction of the overhead power line, financed by the World Bank, is part of the Energy System Development Project. The project’s total value is 61 million euros, with approximately 27 million euros allocated specifically for the construction of the line.
