Placebo’s Return to Romania
Placebo is making a comeback to Romania after some time and will be holding a concert at Arenele Romane on July 30, 2024. Their latest LP release was “Never Let Me Go”, which proved to be an experimental piece, with eco-friendly themes, songs about self-discovery, meditation, and a rather light approach compared to the band’s early 2000s alternative rock sound.
Looking Back at Placebo’s Past Visits
Recalling Placebo’s visits to Romania, I remember their performance at Arenele Romane in 2017, where the venue proved to be too small for the fans. The ending was a bit bizarre, with Brian Molko improvising a lot on the keyboard and going on an anti-Trump rant. Furthermore, the Placebo frontman has become increasingly vocal on political issues in recent years, from Brexit to his recent confrontation with the Italian prime minister, which resulted in a legal battle.
What Has Placebo Been Up To Lately?
In 2023, Placebo announced their first live album, which was released as a box set covering their 25-year career.
Placebo: A Legendary Band
Formed in 1994, Placebo is now a duo consisting of bassist Stefan Olsdal and lead vocalist/guitarist Brian Molko. The band has performed in Romania multiple times, including appearances at Summer Well in 2014 and Romexpo in 2009 while promoting “Battle for the Sun.”
In 2012, Placebo even played a concert at a rugby stadium in the north of the capital city, on a scorching hot day. Following their debut of “Never Let Me Go” in 2022, the band released a single cover of Tears for Fears’ “Shout.” At the 2023 Download festival, Placebo performed “Nancy Boy” for the first time in six years.
With any luck, fans can expect to hear more tracks from albums like “Sleeping With Ghosts,” “Meds,” and “Black Market Music” at their upcoming concert. Tickets go on sale starting March 14, 2024.
