Police Protest Scheduled in Sofia
Today at 12:00 PM, police officers from the Ministry of Interior are gathering for a protest in Sofia, specifically in the park opposite the National Assembly parking lot. The demonstration aims to express their dissatisfaction with what they describe as an “unprecedented attempt to manipulate the Ministry of Interior.”
The announcement was made on Facebook by the head of the “Specialized Police Forces” at the Sofia Directorate of Interior, Lachezar Kolev. It is anticipated that not only members of the Sofia Directorate will participate, but also personnel from other structures such as the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, the National Police Service, and the Special Operations Brigade. Protests are also expected to take place in front of regional directorates across the country.
“We must show the state officials that the Ministry of Interior is not and will not be a tool in political battles. The Ministry is a depoliticized system and is not affiliated with any particular parties or politicians. We serve only the Bulgarian citizens. It is time to clearly state that in a normal, democratic, and rule-of-law state, police officers should not be subjected to humiliation in the name of political interests and agreements,” he stated.
On Saturday, August 10, Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov revealed that after a meeting with the nominated Prime Minister Goritsa Kozhareva, he was left with the impression that she was under significant political pressure for him not to remain in his position and for someone else to take his place.
