High Waves and Strong Winds Prevent Tourists from Swimming
It’s a partially ruined day for those spending their vacation on the coast. Tourists are not allowed to enter the sea. In the south of the coast, the red flag is raised, and the wind is blowing strongly.
Even though it’s very hot, people have been warned to stay on the shore. The wind is blowing strongly on the coast, creating large waves of 2 meters.
Lifeguards have already blown the whistle, continuously warning tourists, who don’t seem to care and stay in the water. On the beaches in the south of the coast, lifeguards have warned tourists not to enter the water, as a disaster could happen at any moment.
The large waves, exceeding two meters, were seen more as a form of entertainment. Răzvan Viza – Neptun lifeguard: “People still don’t understand that when there are strong currents, the danger starts from the water at the waist. We no longer consider the buoys, we no longer look for landmarks because they can be swept away.”
Unsafe Conditions on the Beach
Despite the strong currents and the ban on entering the water, many beachgoers at Eforie Nord were seen shoulder to shoulder in the sea, ignoring the red flag raised by the lifeguards.
Reporter: Do you know that the red flag is up? Man: Yes, but I didn’t go very far. Reporter: How is the sea? Is it very warm? Not choppy? Any waves? Man: Yes, it’s nice. But the currents are strong, they pulled me in.
Gelu Vătămănescu, the chief lifeguard at Eforie, stated: “The sea is very rough, the waves are reaching close to our lifeguard station, they are big and the currents are forming. Some people are swimming, some are not, some are using floaties, some are staying on the shore. We are vigilant and hope for the best.”
The lifeguards predict that the strong winds will continue, and it is likely that the red flag will be raised again tomorrow in the resorts along the southern coast.
