Electricity Tariffs Update
In April, the wholesale price of electricity dropped by 11% compared to March, but this reduction is not expected to lower green rates for consumers in May. Suppliers tend to keep the savings from wholesale price reductions for themselves rather than passing them on to customers. However, those on floating (yellow) rates may see a decrease in their bills, with potential for further cuts.
Government Intervention
Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, Thanasis Kontogeorgis, announced that in August, when new prices are revealed, the government will determine fees and subsidies in detail to alleviate the burden on consumers. Kontogeorgis emphasized the government’s commitment to intervening where necessary to address distortions in the electricity market, ensuring fair prices for all consumers.
