The Increase in Tourist Numbers
According to the analysis of the State Statistical Office, the number of tourists has almost doubled over a period of ten years. From 701,794 tourists in 2013, their number reached 1,168,730 visitors. Although the numbers of tourists in other countries are growing even more, the growth in Macedonia should not be underestimated, considering that Macedonia is not a country with access to the sea. Increasing Number of Tourists
In recent years, the number of tourists visiting this destination has been on the rise. Statistics show a significant increase in foreign tourists compared to domestic ones. For example, in 2013 there were 302,000 domestic tourists, but by 2023, this number had grown to 434,000. On the other hand, the number of foreign visitors more than doubled. In 2013, there were 399,000 foreign visitors, while in 2023, this number reached 734,139.
The total number of tourists in 2023 is 1,168,730, with 37.2% being domestic tourists and 62.8% foreign tourists. This represents a significant shift towards more international visitors over the years.
Increase in Tourism in Macedonia
Last year, there was a 36.6% increase in the number of foreign tourists visiting Macedonia. The total number of overnight stays in 2023 was 3,135,767, with 55.1% being domestic tourists and 44.9% foreign tourists. Compared to the previous year, the number of overnight stays by foreign tourists increased by 22.9% – according to statisticians.
Diverse Accommodation Preferences
The data shows that guests in Macedonia have diverse preferences for their vacations, using both hotel accommodation and staying in individual homes, specifically in cottages or apartments for vacation.
Statistics of Tourism in Macedonia
In Macedonia, last year, a total of 917,260 tourists stayed in hotels, with a whopping 1,788,552 overnight stays. The most popular hotels were the ones with four stars, where over 440,000 visitors stayed, resulting in 880,960 overnight stays.
Accommodation Preferences
The longest stays were recorded in houses and apartments for accommodation, with 1,073,768 overnight stays and 175,679 visitors.
Visitor Origins
The majority of tourists in Macedonia come from Turkey, followed by visitors from neighboring Serbia, Greece, Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Croatia, and more.
