The Minister of Transport, Aleksandar Nikoloski, has informed the government about a recent letter of intent received from the telecommunications operator 4iG Group. This company stands as the second largest telecommunications provider in Hungary and is recognized as a leading IT system integrator, boasting a growing investment portfolio in the aerospace and defense sectors. In 2022, 4iG Group began expanding into the telecommunications markets of the Western Balkans, establishing a notable presence in Montenegro and Albania by launching its own telecommunications brand, ONE.
According to government officials, “4iG Group has shown interest in assessing the conditions for entering the telecommunications market in North Macedonia and providing services in both mobile and fixed telephony. This initiative aligns with 4iG Group’s strategy to enhance its footprint in the Western Balkan countries.” Previously, the government indicated its intention to foster competition and reduce service costs in the mobile and fixed telephony sectors. Recently, Minister Nikoloski met with Gelert Jászai, the president of 4iG Group, in Budapest. It is believed that this company has close ties to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
