Five companies from Bihor County have notified the Bihor Territorial Labor Inspectorate in June that they will be conducting collective dismissals, affecting 185 employees.

The decline of footwear factories in Bihor
Manufacturers of footwear are finding Romania to be an increasingly attractive destination, despite experts in the field pointing out that the quality of the products is much lower. Slowly but surely, it seems that footwear factories operating on a subcontracting basis will disappear from Bihor. One such factory in Marghita has already closed down, with two more in Beiuș and Oradea soon to follow.
“The light industry that has characterized our county will no longer be as significant a factor in the labor market,” confirmed Nicolae Hoduț, deputy chief inspector at the Bihor County Labor Inspectorate. However, the unemployment rate in Bihor remains low, at around 2%, and job opportunities are plentiful. Big names like Nokian Tyres and Stihl are also hiring in the county.
