News Update on the New Supervisory Board of the State Electric Company
Two months have passed since the new government was elected, yet there is still no proposal for a new general director of the State Electric Company (ESM). The question remains: who will take the hot seat in a company that was left with a debt exceeding 200 million euros by the previous government? While no official announcement has been made, speculation has emerged around the name of Zoran Konjanovski, a resident of Bitola with experience in the energy sector and a member of the largest ruling party.
The state-owned electric power production company ESM (formerly known as ELEM) has appointed a new supervisory board, two months after the new government began its operations. However, there is still no official announcement regarding the appointment of a new general director for the largest state-owned enterprise.
Historically, these two months mark the longest period without the selection of a new management board and general director of ESM following a change in government within the last fifteen years of pluralism.
Yesterday, an official announcement regarding the new supervisory board of ESM was published on the Macedonian Stock Exchange, in accordance with the Law on Trade Companies. Notably, among the new members are two professors from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Skopje, one employee from ESM, and two employees from MEPSO, the second state company in the energy sector.
The professors from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering are Maja Anackovska, an assistant professor, and Stevče Antovski, who is also known as a member of the energy commission of the VMRO-DPMNE party and a vocal critic of the previous government’s energy policies. This pattern of representation in the supervisory board has been observed before, with members from MEPSO often included in ESM’s supervisory structure.
In this term, the representatives from MEPSO will be Aleksandar Murgovski, an electrical engineer with years of experience working at transformer stations in the Bitola region, and Leko Ristovski, who works at MEPSO’s headquarters and has extensive experience in the energy sector dating back to the time of the Electric Power Company of Macedonia.
Ivan Kukoski, employed at ESM’s hydro system, is an engineer with extensive experience who has previously been part of the company’s management during the VMRO-DPMNE administration.
As for the supervisory board members Jetmir Idrizi and Erhan Ramadan, we could not obtain information regarding their experience in the energy sector. They were appointed to their positions on the supervisory board based on the proposal from the party coalition “Vlen” or “It Matters.”
