The Increasing Trend of Online Shopping in Greece
In 2023, Greek consumers embraced the convenience of online shopping, spending a total of 35 billion euros on various products and services. The largest portion of this amount, €17.5 billion, was dedicated to purchasing physical goods.
Allocation of Expenses
According to Nexi’s Ecommerce Survey report, €10.7 billion of the total online spending was directed towards travel expenses, including bookings and tickets. The remaining amount was utilized for purchasing various services.
Popular Categories
Among the €17.5 billion spent on physical goods, the report highlighted that €3.1 billion was allocated to home electrical appliances, €2.6 billion to white goods, and €2.4 billion to clothing. This data indicates a noticeable shift in consumer behavior, as more individuals are now opting to purchase these items online rather than in physical stores.
The trend continued with online spending on footwear reaching €1.7 billion, while €1.1 billion was spent on cosmetics and another €1.1 billion on grocery items.

According to recent data, Europeans are increasingly turning to online platforms for their shopping needs. In fact, spending on ready meals alone reached €1.1 billion, with a large portion of these purchases being made through popular ordering and delivery services.
Popular Online Purchases
The data also indicates that the most commonly purchased items online are clothing, ready meals, and beauty products. Clothing leads the way with 48% of online shoppers making purchases in this category, followed by ready meals at 43%, and beauty products at 38%.
