Senator Chuck Schumer Advocates for Pro-Crypto Legislation
During the Crypto4Harris event, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer emphasized that if Kamala Harris is elected president, she aims to enact pro-crypto legislation by the end of the year. Schumer vowed to enhance innovation within the cryptocurrency sector, stating, “We cannot afford to sit on the sidelines because that risks cryptocurrency fleeing overseas to third-world countries with no regulations.”
Schumer further asserted that U.S. lawmakers will no longer ignore crypto innovation and will actively work towards it. At the Crypto4Harris Town Hall, he remarked, “I want to bring together members from both sides of the aisle in the Senate (Democrats and Republicans) to create momentum so we can pass sensible laws that will help maintain the United States’ status as the most innovative country in the world.”
Presidential candidate Harris has yet to present any specific policies regarding cryptocurrency. Crypto stakeholders, who believe that the anti-crypto stance of the Biden administration will be inherited by Harris, have turned their attention to Donald Trump. Indeed, Trump has stated that he is considering using Bitcoin as a national strategic reserve.
Billionaire Mark Cuban also attended the Crypto4Harris event. He accused Trump and the Republicans of hypocrisy regarding cryptocurrency, explaining, “The Republicans don’t care at all. They just want to see Bitcoin maximalists get even richer.”
Notably, Congressman Wiley Nickel, known for his anti-Trump stance, made a striking comment: “Let me tell you, there’s only one presidential candidate who labels crypto as a fraud, and that’s Donald Trump.”
The organizers of the Crypto4Harris event signaled their intent to continue building support for cryptocurrency in Harris’s campaign.
