Moldova Becomes Trolleybus Manufacturer
For over a year now, the Republic of Moldova has been producing trolleybuses. More than 70 units of public transport are currently operating on the streets of the capital city, Chișinău, with 16 trolleybuses being delivered to the local authorities in the city of Bălți today. Another six trolleybuses are set to be delivered to the Bălți City Hall by the end of August, announced Vitalie Eșanu, the director of the trolleybus manufacturing company, during a joint press conference with the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, Dumitru Alaiba.
“The trolleybuses are produced in Chișinău, using both imported components and locally manufactured equipment. We are not just assembling the trolleybuses, but actually producing them. Such electric trolleybuses cost at least 650,000 euros in Romania, without VAT. The units we produce here, with cheaper labor and our own equipment, are practically half the price.
Local Company Produces Electric Buses
In Chișinău, the capital city of Moldova, there are now 70 electric trolleybuses in operation, according to Eșanu, the director of the company “Informbusiness”.
Future Plans for Tram Production
Eșanu also mentioned that their company is considering the production of trams in the future. They have an unconventional idea in mind and are excited about the possibility of expanding their product range.
Minister Praises Local Manufacturing
Minister Alaiba expressed his admiration for Vitalie Eșanu’s dedication, as his company has already manufactured nearly 100 trolleybuses. He emphasized the importance of supporting local manufacturing and taking pride in products made in Moldova.
Expanding Internationally
Alaiba mentioned that Vitalie Eșanu’s company has managed to establish itself on the international market. They export technical equipment for around 30 different models of trolleybuses, electric buses, and trams to over 170 cities worldwide. This is proof of the enormous potential that exists in the industry. It is our duty to capitalize on this potential.
Infrastructure Development
The trolleybuses delivered to the city of Bălți were purchased through a tender organized with financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. This is just the beginning of a larger project to improve public transportation in the city.
